About This Seminar

The security environment in Southeast Asia has changed significantly after 9/11. Since the U.S. intervention in Afghanistan in October 2001, Al Qaeda organizers of attacks, financiers, operatives and other experts have dispersed to lawless zones in the global south including Southeast Asia. Today, Al Qaeda has ideologically and operationally penetrated two dozen Islamist parties and groups including Southeast Asian groups. While waging their domestic campaigns, some of these groups are cooperating and coordinating with Al Qaeda to mount operations against the targets of the U.S., its allies and friends. This talk will examine the evolving nexus between Al Qaeda and its associated entities and discuss future likely developments in the region.
