About This Seminar
Professor Katharine H. S. Moon will discuss how anti-Americanism increased and became more mainstream by the late 1990s in South Korea, focused mainly on the U.S. bases. She notes that what is novel about the anti-Americanism of the 1990s and 2000s is the diversity of individuals, coalitions and methods engaged in its development and "performance" on the political stage and their pursuit of legal and technical means to strengthen their position. Professor Moon will explore the recent development of anti-Americanism in South Korea in the context of democratization and social movements both within and outside Korea and their implications for U.S.-Korea relations.
